Quilt As You Go - with Clare Smith
$86.00 - $103.00
10 am to 4 pm
Learn the popular quilt-as-you-go method to create a finished project that is both practical and beautiful. Choose to make either a lined bag or up to 4 placemats. By the end of the class, you will have a completed project to take home. Along the way, learn to turn strips and squares into a quilt, when to use a walking foot, and how to create a mitred binding.
Sashiko stitching and machine quilting will also be demonstrated as embellishment options to explore further at home.
This class is suitable for beginner quilters, though basic sewing machine experience is helpful.

Needs list:
FABRIC – 100% cotton or linen
- 4 - 5 fat quarters of quilt fabric that go together.
or
- A selection of strips or scraps of fabric enough to cover an area of 0.5m x 1.5m
- 0.5m quilt batting – this depends on what you want to make. I suggest a stiff low loft needle punch batting for a bag as this helps the bag keep its shape.
- For a table runner you might choose a silver heat-protecting batting or a piece of an old blanket. For placemats you could use scraps or low loft batting, heat protecting batting or fusible batting.
- 0.5m backing fabric such as homespun or prewashed calico or patterned quilting fabric
THREADS
- Machine thread for the piecing / quilting. Something to match your fabric colours or a neutral colour.
SEWING MACHINE
- Sewing machine in good working order (clean & oil + new sharp needle before first class) with instruction book, presser feet, foot control, power cords, extension table and accessories.
- Walking foot
