4 Week Course

Your life is the longest thing you ever do - it deserves to be recorded! Andrew James presents how to keep an illustrated journal in pen and watercolour. No subject matter is off-limits.

In this fun and encouraging class, we'll learn how to draw moments from our lives in our sketchbooks and then bring those sketches to life with watercolour. The first week is an introduction to the wonderful world of watercolour, and each following week, we will look at different genres of sketchbook drawing, taking a page from one of Andrew's books and learning to create your version of it.

Andrew takes the course in the direction the class dictates, making each term of this course different and fresh.

Some genres covered include:
- Interior scenes - bathrooms, lounges, kitchens
- Collections of objects - like kids' toys, tools or
- Food and drink. What's for dinner, or what is left on the table at the end of a meal
- Flowers and foliage
- Things in packets - anything from toothpaste tubes to laundry detergent.

About Andrew James:

I first got into drawing to have a travel sketchbook. I accidentally became obsessed with sketchbooks. 10 years on, drawing has made my life more fun and interesting. I genuinely believe that anyone can learn to paint and draw—life is better when you draw it.

My teaching is empowering and practical and delivered with enthusiasm and humour.

Topics Covered:

  • How to start a sketchbook, ways to fit this habit into your life.
  • How to draw the fast, free and fun way.
  • How to choose what to draw
  • Composition - how to arrange a sketchbook page
  • How to select paints, mix colours, and apply them to the page in a variety of ways.

Materials:

  • A4 or A5 watercolour sketchbook or visual diary
  • Black waterproof pen
  • Watercolour paints and brushes, if you have them - I’ll bring some spares and talk in more detail about gear at the first session so don’t buy anything before then.
  • Bring whatever materials and paints you have and would like to use.

Note regarding payment:

When you check out we offer two payment options - internet banking or credit card. Internet banking is preferred.  We pay fees for credit card payments.
On completing your order you'll be given the bank account number.
