160.00 - 180.00
Looking to try something new. This course is open to beginners.
Get your hands dirty with this awesome 8 week course - exploration into sculpting with Polymer Clay.
Create an animal or a self-portrait while being gentle guided by your tutor. Sarah Dean is an experienced tutor here at the centre - she''s been teaching this popular course with the children for four terms, with amazing success, so no need to feel intimidated - if they can do it, so can you!
Ideal for anyone interested in sculpting with no prior experience.
Polymer Clay is a heat curing form of clay and much like other clay, uses an additive method to construct desired forms. Unlike traditional clay it relies on warmth from the sculptor’s hands to make it malleable and does not dry out or shrink.
Week 1: Introductions and introduction to materials. Choosing an animal or human head. Drawing ideas, to work out pose and size etc. Creating structure with wire and tin foil. Or choosing a mirror for a self portrait and create underlying structure out of tinfoil.
Week 2: Finish building the structure, start getting to know the clay and build up form.
Week 3-4: Build up form, look at the anatomy of animals.
Week 5-: Look at textures, spend some time creating textures, as many as we can. Applying the textures and details to the animal sculptures. working on details.
Week 6-8: Finish up or take your time - sculptures do not have to be finished in a single term if you prefer to take your pace.
The finished sculptures will be cooked by the tutor so they can be finished with acrylic paint.
We encourage artistic expression across a wide variety of arts and crafts.
