Collagraph Printmaking - with Kirsty White

$115.00 - $130.00
Saturday 31 October
10 am to 4 pm

Collagraph printmaking is an accessible and environmentally friendly way of making very interesting prints with unique textures. At its simplest, it is a method of printing from collaged plates; at its most sophisticated, it is an innovative and exciting experimental medium.

In this class, create a small set of collagraph printing plates predominantly using the cardboard peeling method, whereby layers of cardboard are gradually peeled back to create a variety of subtle depths. Extra details and textures are added using etching tools, PVA, and or wallpaper.

These collagraph plates will loosely run along a landscape theme with details of natural textures inspired by landscape.
You will learn the diverse ways of printing these plates through cutting them up, overprinting, masking, and exploring composition and whitespace.

About Kirsty White

Kirsty is a full-time artist, exhibiting regularly, participating in major NZ art shows, and has her work available in several leading galleries throughout NZ.

Since her upbringing on a remote farm in the hills of the Wairarapa, Kirsty has been left with a legacy of love for our landscape and native bush. Attending Massey University, Kirsty gained a Bachelor's in Design, falling in love with the print room along the way under tutor and Wellington printmaker Basia Smolnicki.  Now, living on the rugged south coast, her 'muse', Kirsty translates this love of landscape from her sketch books into fine art, using layers of texture and tone through the printmaking process. Her work is highly original and imbued with her passion for the beauty and stories of Aotearoa.
