Kitchen Printmaking - with Geetika Chatterjee

Tuesdays - 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
25 August to 15 September
4-week class

Your kitchen cupboards hold the secrets to beautiful printmaking! This fun, eco-friendly course introduces two ingenious printmaking techniques using everyday materials, with no specialist equipment or harsh chemicals required.

Aluminium Foil Lithography takes the ancient principle of lithography, that water and oil repel each other, and brings it right into the modern kitchen. Replace heavy limestone slabs with aluminium foil, oil pastels and other oily media. Etch the design with the acid from common soft drinks, and print the results with a press. The effect is delicate, expressive, and surprisingly beautiful.

Tetra Pak Etching gives your empty drink cartons a spectacular second life. Using the foil or plastic lining of a Tetra Pak as your printing plate, score your design directly into the surface. This is drypoint intaglio printmaking at its most accessible and most sustainable.

You will leave with a collection of original prints and a whole new way of looking at your recycling bin.

No previous printmaking experience necessary.

Collagraph Printmaking - with Kirsty White

Saturday 31 October
10 am to 4 pm

Collagraph printmaking is an accessible and environmentally friendly way of making very interesting prints with unique textures. Extra details and textures are added using etching tools, PVA, and or wallpaper.

These collagraph plates will loosely run along a landscape theme with details of natural textures inspired by landscape.
You will learn the diverse ways of printing these plates through cutting them up, overprinting, masking, and exploring composition and whitespace.
