Magic in the Ordinary: pen and watercolour sketchbook - with Andrew James

Andrew James presents how to keep an illustrated journal in pen and watercolour. No subject matter is off-limits.<br><br>In this fun and encouraging class, we'll learn how to draw moments from our lives in our sketchbooks and then bring those sketches to life with watercolour. The first week is an introduction to the wonderful world of watercolour, and each following week, we will look at different genres of sketchbook drawing, taking a page from one of Andrew's books and learning to create your version of it.<br><br>Andrew takes the course in the direction the class dictates, making each term of this course different and fresh. <br><br>Some genres covered include:<br>- Interior scenes - bathrooms, lounges, kitchens<br>- Collections of objects - like kids' toys, tools or <br>- Food and drink. Learn the drypoint etching process - from creating different kinds of marks on the printing plate, to inking plates, to wiping down plates using mull cloth. Experiment with two-tone printing and combining drypoint etching with relief printing using textured plates. Make one-of-a-kind prints by rolling ink onto everyday objects, from kitchen spatulas to broken calculators( thanks to our friends at the Tip Shop), then print them onto paper. Find unique shapes in the prints, then cut out and collage them into a creative cityscape. Add colour with paint, pencil, and pen.

Use a kumihimo disk to make a friendship bracelet or a fancy cord for your favourite hoodie. Make a one-of-a-kind loom from a branched stick. Use the loom to experiment with colours and textures to create a unique weaving.

Mondays <br>3:30 to 4:30 pm<br>6 October to 1 December<br><br>Suitable for children aged 8yrs+ <br><br><br>Learn the basics of crochet. Learn how to hold the crochet hook and the yarn. Make the basic stitches, chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet. Learn to read a simple crochet pattern, with both US and UK stitch names. <br><br>Students will work at their own pace, moving from chain stitch to granny square and beyond. <br><br>Students are welcome to use the yarn available at the Centre, or bring their own if they have something specific in mind. A crochet hook is provided with the materials fee. <br><br>
