Penelope Wilson
Trainee Creative Arts Therapist
Kia ora!
I’m Penelope Wilson, a trainee Creative Arts Therapist in my second year of the Master's in Creative Arts Therapies at Whitecliffe College.
I originally hail from the Waikato but have lived in Pōneke, Wellington, for over a decade and am proud to call it home.
I’m a self-taught artist, with a background in education and a lifelong love of the visual arts, language, and writing. My approach blends image-making and words with movement, voice, and nature-based practices, and I’m particularly drawn to using recycled and repurposed materials in creative ways.
This spring, I’ll be offering a four-week group at KaroriArts and Crafts Centre exploring Creative Journaling as a self-care tool during
times of change. Together, we’ll experiment with different visual and written mediums to build a creative habit and make something truly personal and meaningful.I aim to create a welcoming, curious space where members can play, reflect, and connect with their own creative process. I believe in the
power of the arts to support wellbeing—and I’m always amazed by what unfolds when we simply begin.Karori Arts and Crafts Centre is pleased to offer Art Therapy sessions as part of our programming. These sessions are facilitated by Penelope Wilson, a student therapist currently completing her training in Creative Arts Therapy at Whitecliffe College.
Please note: Penelope is a student therapist and has not yet completed her qualification. All sessions are conducted under the supervision of a fully qualified clinical supervisor.
Art Therapy sessions at Karori Arts and Crafts Centre are intended to support creative expression and personal wellbeing. They are not a substitute for medical treatment, psychiatric care, or clinical psychology services. If you have an existing mental health diagnosis or are under the care of a health professional, we encourage you to discuss your participation with them prior to attending.

Mend & Gather: A Stitching Circle with Penelope Wilson
$45.00 - $68.00
Thursdays
30 April to 4 June
2 pm to 3:30 pm
6-weeks
There's something quietly satisfying about working with your hands in good company. Mend & Gather is a relaxed gathering for people who enjoy — or are curious about — the slow, meditative rhythm of hand-stitching.
Bring along something that needs a small repair (a patch, some buttons, a darn), a hand-stitching or embroidery project you'd like to continue, or simply come and see what materials inspire you. We'll settle in, stitch at our own pace, and enjoy a bit of companionable peace together.
This is a community gathering with a therapeutic ethos — not a therapy group. It's a good fit for those who are comfortable in a small group setting and happy to work a little independently.
