Spinning a Yarn- with Ruth Baldwin

10 am to 4 pm

This is a workshop for learning and practicing spinning skills and exploring wool preparation, particularly the blending of colours and production of rolags for making yarn. We will provide an opportunity to use carders, a blending board, and a hackle and diz. Coloured wool will be provided. Attendees can expect to learn how to spin their own yarn and experiment with creating decorative art yarns.

About Ruth Baldwin: 

I have about 40 years of experience playing with wool and wheels and hope to inspire others to discover their own talents and creativity with wool and other fibres.

Course outcomes:

  1. Learn the parts of a Spinning wheel and how to adjust it.
  2. Practice and refine your spinning techniques
  3. Prepare and play with coloured fibre to produce rolags for spinning.
  4. Create specialist “Art Yarns”

All other materials will be provided.  

Note regarding payment: 
When you check out we offer two options for payment - internet banking or credit card. Our preference is internet banking as:

- We get the money the next day rather than 10 days later
- We don't pay credit card fees of approximately 2% 
- It's much quicker for the Centre Manager to administrate
