Jigsaw Linocut - with Julie Moonlight
$95.00 - $110.00
Sunday, 1 March 1 pm to 4 pm
6 hour course spread across 2 days
Jigsaw linocut is a form of relief printmaking that allows for the simultaneous printing of multiple colours. An image is carved into a piece of linoleum, then cut into separate pieces to enable the individual pieces to be inked separately in different colours, reassembled like a jigsaw, and printed in one go.
In this course, learn different ways to create and print a multi-coloured image using the jigsaw linocut method. Receive expert advice on how to plan a design, cut the linoleum, and print the image.
About Julie Moonlight:
Julie has been passionate about printmaking since studying it 25 years ago. The techniques and processes are fun to learn and so varied, from traditional relief printmaking methods like Lino, woodcut, and mono print to new innovations like jelly plate printing, TetraPak printing, and kitchen lithography. She loves experimenting and exploring new techniques and has been lucky to learn even more from New Zealand and international printmakers alike. Her favourite printmaking process is linocut, which is low-tech and doesn’t require specialist equipment. It can be approached in many different ways, such as reduction, multi-block, and jigsaw linocut, to name a few. The possibilities are endless. Julie has exhibited at the New Zealand Art Show, the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Zealandia, and various group exhibitions both in New Zealand and overseas. She is an Executive Committee member of the Print Council Aotearoa, New Zealand, and has a work featured in its publication ‘PROOF’, which celebrates two decades of printmaking in New Zealand. Julie has been a tutor at KACC for both children and adult classes for the past 12 years. Julie loves sharing different art techniques with others and enjoys seeing the wonderful creations that participants make and how their skills, confidence, and creativity develop as a result of the classes. |

* A note about Lino or soft cut vinyl - if you like to carve detail, then I find Lino is easier for this. If you like large areas of flat colour and minimal carving/detail, then you might find vinyl easier to use. It is worth experimenting, though, to find what you like best.
