Kitchen Printmaking - with Geetika Chatterjee

Tuesdays - 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm<br>25 August to 15 September<br>4-week class<br><br>Your kitchen cupboards hold the secrets to beautiful printmaking! This fun, eco-friendly course introduces two ingenious printmaking techniques using everyday materials, with no specialist equipment or harsh chemicals required.<br><br>Aluminium Foil Lithography takes the ancient principle of lithography, that water and oil repel each other, and brings it right into the modern kitchen. Replace heavy limestone slabs with aluminium foil, oil pastels and other oily media. Etch the design with the acid from common soft drinks, and print the results with a press. The effect is delicate, expressive, and surprisingly beautiful.<br><br>Tetra Pak Etching gives your empty drink cartons a spectacular second life. Using the foil or plastic lining of a Tetra Pak as your printing plate, score your design directly into the surface. This is drypoint intaglio printmaking at its most accessible and most sustainable.<br><br>You will leave with a collection of original prints and a whole new way of looking at your recycling bin.<br><br>No previous printmaking experience necessary.

Sundays<br>10 am to 12 pm<br>2, 9, 23, & 30 August<br>4-week class<br><br>Take your printmaking to the next level by combining the bold, expressive marks of linocut with the delicate beauty of chine collé. The chine collé technique layers fine decorative papers onto your print to add colour, texture, and depth.<br><br>Over four sessions, develop an original linocut design from initial drawing through to finished print. Along the way, explore mark-making, learn to transfer a design onto a lino block, cut a block, and print the final edition. Using the chine collé technique results in prints that are both striking and unique.<br><br>No previous printmaking experience is necessary.

Wonky Buildings: pen and watercolour sketchbook - with Andrew James

Thursdays - 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm<br>27 August to 17 September<br>4-week course<br><br>Drawing straight lines is boring, and I can't be bothered finding vanishing points. This class is about pushing proportions and leaning into any mistakes we make, so our drawings are more fun and freer.<br><br>We'll draw with pen, learn how to split up complex buildings and scenes into their components, and bring the drawings to life with watercolour.<br><br>You'll leave with a bunch of drawings in your sketchbook, but more importantly, you'll have a system for approaching a drawing that will set you up for success, even in overwhelming or complicated scenes.<br><br>Beginning with the foundation of bold lines, we'll build a visual language and learn some tricks about how buildings work.<br><br>We'll gradually make our way from garden sheds to ornate facades. We'll also turn our hand to watercolours and learn a system for thinking about and mixing colours. We'll use those colours to bring our buildings to life.
