From outside Karori Park Café, nine of us crossed the field to the
left, to a bridge that leads onto steps and thence to Khouri Road.
From the top of Khouri Road, a pleasant (but steepish) bush-covered
access way then took us to Makara Road. A short walk up Makara
Road then took us to the start of the Skyline walkway.

We then walked along the Skyline track, taking the left branch at
the point where the track forked, to the water tank and Montgomery
Avenue play area. From there we walked, via steps at the end of
Caldwell Street, to the vicinity of the Scout Hall on Karori Park.

There were, at various points, pleasant views behind us to Makara
Peak, on the right across to Karori, and to a valley and hill on the
other side. The hillside drops off sharply to the left, down into an
area, with very little evidence of human habitation, that is labeled
“Otari Farms”.

We arrived back at the café just before midday, finishing the morning
with food and pleasant conversation.

There is a wide choice of tracks from the Skyline down into Karori Park,
which it will be interesting to explore at some future time. Several of us
are keen, at some point in the summer, to explore the further extent of
the Skyline track through to Johnsonville.
