What do cork, linen, pineapple, cotton, bark (birch, lacebark, paperbark, agave, fig ), bamboo, flax, palm leaves and cabbage tree leaves have in common? All can and have been used to make clothing and each of these plants can be found in the Wellington Botanic Garden.

We were very fortunate to have Jenny Hickman speak to us on "Cutting your coat according to the Plant". In her various bags Jenny was able to bring a treasure trove of examples of those plants and the clothing made from them.

For those who are interested and who don't mind steps and hills I may arrange an informal walk with the Friends of the Botanic Garden to see these plants. If you are interested please give me your details at the September or October meeting and I will try to arrange something when the weather is more settled.

At our meeting we were also able to raise $27 for the heat pump fund. Thank you to Jenn Keenan for brightening our Friday morning with beautiful plants and flowers.

In September we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to visit a well established Karori garden to talk of its' history and view some impressive magnolia trees. We will meet at the Centre for a talk about the garden we are going to visit and some morning tea before we head off to the garden.
